Join us for a free public legal education session designed especially for students and newcomers to New Zealand. Led by experienced legal professionals, this seminar will explore real-world legal issues that affect everyday life — helping you understand your rights and how to protect them.
1st August we hold Legal Awareness Seminar for Students
Amtrust x Law with Rii Consultancy
Many international students in New Zealand face serious challenges not because they’re incapable — but because they lack access to essential legal knowledge.
Ongoing Legal workshop Series
Every month, our foundation launches several themed Legal Awareness Series, covering topics that matter most to international students and young people navigating life in New Zealand. Our first session was a great success — students engaged in passionate discussions with the speaker, asking thoughtful questions and sharing real-life concerns. Even after the event officially ended, many participants chose to stay, continuing to talk with the host team about issues they truly care about. Legal empowerment is not a luxury — it’s a necessity.International students often face challenges not because they lack ability, but because they lack access to local legal knowledge and support. Through these monthly legal awareness sessions, we aim to bridge that gap — helping students recognise what is right, what is wrong, and what actions they can take when their rights or dignity are under threat. We’re not just teaching law —We’re building confidence, clarity, and community.Featured topics across the series incl
- Racial discrimination and your rights Learn how to identify discriminatory treatment and what steps you can take to protect yourself legally and emotionally.
- What to do if you're sexually harassed Understand your rights, how to document incidents, who to speak to, and what legal protections are available in New Zealand.
- Employment contracts: what you must know before signing Know what to look out for in a contract, how to protect yourself from exploitation, and where to get help if something feels wrong.
- Academic misconduct: how to defend yourself if wrongly accused Discover how schools investigate plagiarism or cheating, what your rights are in academic disciplinary processes, and how to respond if you're treated unfairly.
- Tenancy disputes and the Disputes Tribunal process Understand your rights as a tenant, how to deal with landlord issues, and how to make a claim or defend yourself at the Tribunal.
We believe knowledge is protection.
About the SessionIn just 1.5 hours, our participants explored three essential topics, all presented in a relaxed, student-focused format.Held in a comfortable venue, the discussion was lively, relevant, and deeply engaging — with students focusing on the topics that matter most to them. Even after the session ended, many stayed behind, continuing conversations with our legal expert and organisers. That enthusiasm tells us: this work is needed. We want to empower students by showing them:
What is right and what is wrong under New Zealand law. What to do when someone crosses a legal or ethical line. How to stand up for yourself — with clarity, confidence, and support.

- During the University of Auckland Open Day in early March 2025, Amtrust was invited to participate in the NZCSA (University of Auckland Chinese Students and Scholars Association) exhibition area, actively engaging in campus promotion activities. By setting up a booth and interacting with students, we provided detailed information about the career training courses, public lectures, and employment guidance programs Amtrust offers, tailored specifically for international students.
- On the day of the event, we engaged with over 200 students. The atmosphere was lively, and many students expressed that they gained a clearer direction for their career planning and showed strong interest in the foundation's upcoming series of activities.
- This promotion not only raised Amtrust's visibility among the student community but also laid a solid foundation for the future promotion of our programs.

Mid-Autumn Festival Networking Event: Amtrust Brings Outreach Activities to Massey University
In mid-September 2024, the New Zealand International Student Foundation actively participated in the Mid-Autumn Festival Networking event hosted by Massey University. As one of the key participants in the event, we set up a promotional booth to introduce the foundation’s mission and the various career training and public course programs currently being offered.
Through face-to-face interactions with attending international students, we not only addressed their questions regarding job hunting and career development but also collected valuable suggestions and feedback. This outreach activity further enhanced the foundation’s visibility and influence within the student community, laying a strong foundation for the promotion of future courses and the implementation of our community projects.
