Tenancy Rights and How to Resolve Rental Disputes
A practical guide to understanding the New Zealand Residential Tenancies Act. This lecture explains common tenancy issues like bond disputes, unlawful rent increases, property damage, or sudden evictions. Students will learn how to communicate with landlords, document problems, and escalate issues legally through the Tenancy Tribunal.
Academic Misconduct: What to Do If Accused of Plagiarism or Fraud
Accusations of academic dishonesty can be stressful and confusing. This session explores what constitutes plagiarism, falsification, or cheating in NZ institutions, and what steps to take if accused. It includes guidance on responding to formal investigations, knowing your rights, and accessing advocacy or legal advice.
Dealing With Interpersonal or Physical Disputes
Conflicts can arise in flatting situations, friend groups, or public spaces. This lecture outlines what the law says about harassment, verbal threats, and physical altercations. Students will learn how to de-escalate tense situations, gather evidence if needed, and report serious incidents to the appropriate authorities.
Conflict Resolution and Accessing Legal Help
Not every problem needs a court case. This session introduces basic conflict resolution techniques—like active listening, calm negotiation, and mediation. It also explains where international students can turn when they need professional legal support, including community law centres, legal aid, and student advocacy services.
